Getting started in commercials

ABOUT THE CLASS:

This is a beginner level commercial auditioning class led by full-time working actor, Katie Dallas. (Who the heck is Katie? Learn more below.) This class is intended for actors looking to get into commercials with no prior experience or who are relatively new to commercial auditioning. No prior experience is required, although previous acting and/or improv training is highly recommended. Class objectives include:

  • Work on common commercial audition types

  • Learn how to read casting notices, audition specs, and breakdowns

  • Get comfortable with self-taping and gain confidence in the tapes you’re turning in

  • Review self-tapes to see how yours stacks up in an “audition lineup”

  • Practice a virtual callback

  • Get actionable next steps to continue your commercial journey

To be competitive in this new age of auditioning, self-tapes are a must. Actors will be asked to do weekly self-tape practice outside of class. â€‹

This class will take you from zero to audition-ready. Let’s play!

ABOUT KATIE:

Katie booked her first commercial in 2013 and has since worked in numerous commercials in the Texas, Oklahoma, Los Angeles, and New York City markets. She is a full-time actor and voiceover talent represented by Mary Collins Agency. Her approachable confidence and sharp wit have landed her roles in national and international spots with top brand names including Subway, Office Depot, Michaels, Intuit, IBM, and Farm Bureau, just to name a few. She is repeatedly hired by directors, and she recently booked a national comedic spot which was cast out of LA with a director she worked with in Austin.

Prior to her acting and VO life, Katie was a software product manager and has a knack for breaking down complex processes into simple, easy to understand pieces. She has taught Intro to Improv, Level 1, and Level 5 Improv at Stomping Ground Comedy. Her goal with this class is to break down the seemingly mysterious process for breaking into commercial work in this new world of self-tapes.
